THE POSITION: Under the direction of the Director Perioperative Services, the Per Diem Registered Nurse III Recovery PACU is responsible for providing professional direct or indirect nursing care to patients. Post-anesthesia care unit nurses (PACU) care for patients who are waking up from anesthesia after surgery. Patients may have difficulty regaining consciousness or endure side effects from anesthesia including pain, confusion, nausea, and difficulty breathing. Patients might be unable to articulate their pain so the PACU nurse will proactively observe and act accordingly. They will monitor post-operation vital signs, levels of consciousness, and assure patients safely wake from anesthesia. PACU nurses work in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment, requiring quick decisions. IDEAL CANDIDATE: The ideal candidate for this position has previous experience caring for Post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) patients and has a professional background working in critical care and/or an emergency department. The candidate will also demonstrate dedication to providing the highest level of care and service towards every patient. Distinguishing Characteristics:The Per Diem Nurse is distinguished from the Registered Nurse classification in that Per Diem Nurses are scheduled to work on an as-needed basis (intermittent) to supplement staffing needs.EDUCATIONAL INCENTIVE: Some positions may be eligible for educational incentive pay in addition to the adjusted base rate of pay in the noted amounts for educational attainments which are not specifically required for the classification:Bachelor's Degree $1.25/hrGraduate's Degree $1.75/hr BILINGUAL INCENTIVE: Some positions may be eligible for bilingual incentive depending on the applicable memorandum of agreement and the needs of the department. In order to qualify for this incentive, incumbents in eligible positions must take and pass the applicable bilingual fluency examination. PAYROLL TITLE: Per Diem Registered Nurse IIIDEPARTMENT/AGENCY: Health Care Agency Santa Paula Hospital Nursing practice at this level demonstrates the application of intermediate assessment skills; independent judgment and action; and adherence to patient privacy, confidentiality, and security guidelines. Incumbents are expected to work at the full scope of their licensure providing clinical care with a decreasing amount of supervision commensurate with their experience. Per Diem Registered Nurse III is represented by the California Nurse's Association (CNA) and is eligible for overtime compensation. Salary placement will be determined according to the current CNA Per Diem Unit memorandum of agreement. It is to your advantage to apply as soon as possible.Examples Of DutiesEXAMPLES OF DUTIES:Duties may include but are not limited to the following:Implements nursing processes (assessment, planning, implementation of care plan, evaluation of patient response); revises plans as needed;Follows prescribed doctors' orders concerning treatments and medications;Makes patient observations, records and reports all pertinent information; provides follow-through on judgement.Assists doctors in examination and treatment;Provides unit organization and is responsible for completion of all delegated and indicated nursing duties by the end of the assigned shift;Assists in training, supervision and evaluation of ancillary personnel and in the training of new personnel;As surgical nurse, orders, arranges and provides operating room instruments and supplies for surgeons, maintains sterility, positions patients for surgery, obtains x-rays and medications, maintains records and prepares reports;In Ambulatory Medicine areas, provides physician assistance and patient care as indicated and required;Administers basic and advanced competency nursing care in accordance with VCMC/SPH policies and procedures and Patient Bill of Rights;Provides direction to others regarding complex health and patient problems;Provides patient and staff education including the coordination of educational programs;Participates in hospital and/or nursing administration care committee;Reviews, identifies, reports and corrects deficiencies in practices, products or equipment as necessary;Develops, implements and documents performance improvement processes; Recognizes problem situations and takes appropriate steps leading to correction;Coordinates patient care conferences; and Performs other related duties as required.Recruitment ProcessRECRUITMENT PROCESS FINAL FILING DATE: This is a continuous recruitment and may close at any time; therefore, apply as soon as possible if you are interested in it.
